This book was really good and a great read for Black History month. It was not too detailed to make you too angry to continue and It was written well enough to allow you to understand the emotions of Etta Jean as well as her Mother. I really enjoyed it!
I absolutely LOVED this story!! So different from the usual 'born a sad colored girl' story. Even though Etta Jean didn't know her mother, both mother and daughter were cut from the same 'I will make a way' cloth, no matter the obstacles. Thank you Michael Edwin Q. for this beautiful story!!
I fell in love with this book,the characters and everything about this book it was like looking back in time and learning things that were being told by this author.It all seemed so real I did not want it to end.Looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
If you know the love of a mother or, sadly, do not , you would be hard-pressed to find a truer story to explain that unique bond. The rich detail of people, times and places in “Born a Colored Girl†brings to mind the classic Alex Haley saga, “Roots.†It reads like a well-made motion picture; one that leaves you shaken and enriched.
So enjoyed the determination and love this mother had in order to find her children lost to slavery and how she overcame so many obstacles that helped her into a new life.
This is a must read book. Reading this book had me in many emotions but I must say I am even more proud to be a BLACK WOMAN.
This author reached my heart, I loved it. Awesome writing, his heart and soul was put into this book. I am anxious to read more of his writings.
