Incredible book. David Platt is thoroughly gospel-centered and writes with eloquently. He's very to the point and unapologetic about his beliefs, but is also very humble and considerate of the different viewpoints, doubts, and critiques of both Christians and non-Christians. He's also humble, admitting that his experiences with discrimination are very different than minorities in America, for example.I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand what it might look like to take a stance founded on biblical truths on important social issues in the US and across the world. Each chapter is fairly short and provides great discussion for couples or groups, and includes steps for prayer and other action at the end of each one.
Platt wrote a solid book. It's wonderfully, theologically sound and asks a number of conscious pricking questions on areas of social justice, the Gospel, and our responsibility as people to participate in socially oriented issues.What keeps it shy of an outright 5 start rating is a lack of practicality. I really wish that there was more specific, practical steps that could have been recommended. Further, in the chapter on marriage (I believe chapter 6), I think the practical implications of complementarianism needed to be fleshed out. Platt did a great job of laying out the theological realities and implications of marriage, but it really needed a real life example of practicing this theology - like of husbands and wives discerning how to buy a car or house together, and what headship, submission, complementarianism, and individual giftedness looks like applied from Scripture.
This book will give you a headache and make you truly think about your Faith and just what our God leads us to do to glorify Him. Truly loving it and doing a group Bible study with this book. OUTSTANDING READ FOR CHRISTIANS AND ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED IN WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND US EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY. Thank you Mr. Platt.
This is an incredible book that opens your eyes to the truth in the Gospel and the world around us. This book challenges is to not stand by idly and watch as many so called christians condone the actions of the world, while proclaiming they love Christ. It pulls at your heart strings and might even push you over the edge if God's been speaking to you about something...get ready to change your life and obey. This is an amazing book!
Wow. David Platt has done a wonderful job laying out what it means to live a Christ like life in todays society. Living counter culturally means that we do not conform to the norms of the culture that we are living in, and Platt puts this into a perspective that really hits home. He uses illustrations from his own life and his own experiences to help portray the need for us to stand up for right in a world that is full of so much negativity and neglect. Please take the time to read this book.
Book was new and great quality. The read was absolutely spectacular! If you are looking for something that will completely rock your world and shift your perception of what it really means to be a Christian than pick this up today! I encourage all Christians to read this and his other two books, "Follow Me" and "Radical". The church as a whole would do better if we listen to his words.
An informed and passionate challenge! Platt looks at the yawning gap between the call and practice of the church. He does so in a challenging but grace-filled and winsome way. I was moved to acknowledge my own failings and to trust God for the grace to represent Him more fully in the world.
Excellent! Christianity is not about us. It all about God! Most so - called Christians live very safe and uninterrupted lives, never really being inconvenienced or going out of their way in proclaiming the Gospel. They go to church on Sunday and think that's all they need to do. Yes, Jesus loves you and He's your personal savior and all that good stuff, but its more. Its about caring about what and who Jesus cared about. Platt talk about many social themes and what we should be doing as Christians.This book is a must read and will make you look at the Gospel, and your role as a Christian, in a whole new light.
